A trench collapsed Friday along a DART rail line under construction, killing one worker and injuring another, officials report. The accident transpired at 1:30pm at a work site.
The trench collapsed on two workers that were resetting a water line between Deep Ellum and Baylor stations along the planned Green Line rail tracks, a DART spokesperson reports.
Dallas Fire Rescue said the department’s technical team was called to the scene to help rescue the two men. Firefighters made their way to the trapped worker under the rubble, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The other worker was taken to the hospital and his condition is unknown.
“We’ve never had a fatal accident like this on the DART rail system, going back to 1992,” he said. “Our own staff will work with OSHA to investigate what happened and learn from it.”
