France’s pharmaceutical regulatory agency is recalling two lots of Sanofi-Aventis’ anti blood-clotting drug Plavix in France as a precautionary measure.

The decision was determined after officials in Britian discovered counterfeit Plavix bearing the same lot numbers 3051 and 3091, France’s Afssaps Agency said.

Sanovi-Aventis stresses they are confident that its Plavix were up to standard and the recall was nothing more than a precaution.

“Sanofi-Aventis France guarantees that all the original Plavix batches it manufactured — including those bearing the numbers 3051 and 3091 — and delivered to customers were fully compliant with the required quality standard,” said Salah Mahyaoui, head of product communication at Sanofi-Aventis in Paris.
